I want the choices to be there simply to make it more interactive for the readers while also adding meaningful details to the story.

Visual novels are a unique medium because they combine the visual parts of a story to help cut back on narration (instead of describing the setting which I struggle with I can just use a background so they see the setting right away.)

So my main focus will more so be on the art to handle the description narration and then all I need to do is add the dialogue.

With the choices these can also be used to handle narrations that might feel a bit out of place if you try to incorporate them in the story. Choices sometimes have good endings and bad endings and these can be used to incorporate the perks of omniscient third person point of view while still sticking to the first person point of view. The readers get a sneak peek at the possible dangers ahead while the main character and story POV and story plot remains intact.

I’m not sure if I described that well enough but that’s my goal when I try to make the choices interactive and meaningful for the readers. Now that we (the reader) know this choice leads to a dead end we can pick the other choice to lead the character to the right/safe path.

Now a way that us authors can have fun with that a little more is were we can show the readers the bad ending if they go that route and the readers lead the character to another path to avoid that but then us authors add in a rode block that adds tension forcing the characters to have to go to that bad ending path.

My  goal in doing that is to get the readers to feel that heart pounding tension because they know what lies ahead and tried to avoid it but are now forced to watch and see the outcome which of course everything turns out fine and the story continues because it’s know fun to have both choices lead to the bad ending cause then the story isn’t fun but just frustrating cause it didn’t go anywhere and all that stress was pointless. It’s kind of like a roller coaster ride but with stories. (I’m one of the authors that enjoys tormenting my characters and readers….that sounds a lot worse then what I intended but it’s so much fun! I can’t give a logical reason why ^^;)

Today marks the first day of Nanoreno and my current goal is to get my story outline done and then get started one the script. I hope to be able to do weekly documentations of this 30 day challenge. I also hope that I can finish this challenge because I’m a stay at home mom but I also homeschool my 3 children and we have state assessments coming up. Most of my free time will be taken up but the free time that I’m able to find for myself I can use to work on this story.

It’s been such a long time since my last update! Hi everyone! I’ve been busy with homeschooling and comic work that I haven’t had much of any time to do my visual novel work but I’m happy to say that I’m finally getting the hang of homeschooling (the first year was super rough ^^;) and luckily this year I was able to start up a new Visual novel Free Asset series on my Patreon Page.

Since I saw a lot of other artist using Gumroad to host the files for their projects I thought it would be a good idea to post up the 4 free (or pay what you want) backgrounds on there. You can also find them on my Patreon page but for those that don’t want to go through patreon feel free to use Gumroad instead.
No need to worry about payment, it’s pay what you want or if you don’t have the funds you can just enter your email and receive it for free as well <3

The end of the year is coming up and I’m super excited! Why is that? Well, for many reason, one being my birthday and the other is because of a anime convention that I will be attending, but that’s not what this post is about.

Some of you might be wondering what I’ve been up to and for those of you who aren’t already following me on my tumblr ( S.K.Y. Art and Designs tumblr) then I’m sure you might be thinking that I’ve given up on my otome games. Don’t worry, I haven’t given up, I’ve actually been commissioned to do background art for Apple Cider’s upcoming game called Autumn’s Journey. You can check out their website right here~

Now I have mentioned this in a recent post up for those of you who might have missed it I’ll go ahead and let you all know that I haven’t given up on my projects but because of money issues I had to put a pause on working on my free games but once I’m finished with all of these commissions I plan on getting back to work with my free projects.

Now for those of you who’d like to see some of the background art that I’ve done so far go ahead and check out the images below. The programs that I use are Manga Studio EX 4 for the line work and perspective and Photoshop CS3 and Paint Tool Sai for the coloring. I’m still working on improving my background art but I’m so gratefully to be able to have a chance to be commissioned to do this work. It’s been a great learning experience and I’ll keep doing my best to better myself. As usual, thank you to everyone for stopping in and checking up on me. For background count so far I have 5/11 finished and I’m currently working on number 6 which would be the barn yard background so we’re making progress!

Also before I forget, for those of you who might need a few pointers in how to figure out proportions of the buildings to humans in your background, here is a little tid bit tutorial that I put together from some of the pointers and examples that Deji gave me ^^

I’ve been keeping the shorter updates for tumblr but since I have enough to talk about (and since I don’t want to keep this site un-updated….is that a word?) so let’s go ahead and have a talk.

First off, for those who might not know or who haven’t seen my tumblr updates, I’m currently being commissioned as a background artist for a visual novel game called Autumn’s Journey. It’s for a new indie group called Apple Cider. The group consist of Kittykatstar, Deji and Nellie. The game hasn’t been released yet but I’ve already had the chance to play through the whole thing (for obvious reasons ^^) and it’s such a good story! I’m so excited for the release, so I will try my hardest to be as efficient and fast with my work. Here are two of the backgrounds that I’ve finished so far. I’ve decided to start tackling the backgrounds that have buildings in them, since there is a lot more thinking that I have to do because of shadow placement and perspective. With landscape drawings I’m able to draw them with a little more ease since I don’t have to worry to much about perspective, of course that’s just my opinion and thought process so don’t hold me to it.

A Troll’s Fairy Tale:

Now, I do have a small update about this game. Since I’ve been busy working on paid jobs, I haven’t been able to sit down and go back through the game to re-comb out any errors. Since the game was a free game and created during Nanoreno(a 30 day challenge to create a full visual novel game) I haven’t been able to put it at the top of my priority list, again for obvious reasons but thankfully I’ve had so many kind volunteer’s contact me in hopes to help with the proofreading. I’ve had a few mishaps in the past with a few disappearing on me, which is understandable because 1. this isn’t their game and they are doing this for free and 2. It’s a lot of work and again they are just helping for free. So of course I don’t have much to complain about but I’m happy to say that right now there is another kind volunteer helping me with the proofreading. Hopefully the reading isn’t to overwhelming ^^; Her name is Ren and she also has a Deviantart Page, which you can find here <3

Once the game is all re-proofread then I plan on adding a few cg’s that some people have contacted me about. Some of the feedback that I’ve received was a little sad that there wasn’t a kiss cg or a wedding cg, so for all of you fans out there that would like to see that, well I plan on drawing two new cg’s as a thank you for your kind feedback and support. I know that this game isn’t for everybody and I didn’t make this game with everybody in mind. I created something that I enjoyed and I’m so happy to see that there are others that are able to enjoy it right along with me. I know some are shocked and appalled by my mistakes in my game and can’t imagine how I could miss so many mistakes with the amount of people that I had helping me with proofreading and for that I do apologize for the mistakes but that’s the down side about being human. You will make mistakes, little ones and very big stupid ones. Only so much detail and resource can go into creating a free game so I hope that will be taken in to consideration. Either way, I do appreciate you sticking with me through all my silly mistakes and if you haven’t stuck around then that’s okay too. Thank you for stopping by and taking a glance either way ^^


New Visual Novel:

Last thing, I recently received a message on my tumblr about possibly making a sci-fi futuristic visual novel game. Right now I want to finish up my first two games that I have on hold (because of the freelance work, which I’m not complaining about because you have to go where the money is ^^;) School Memories, and Curse of the Caribbean. Right now if my funds are right then I hope to be able to release both of these games for free but if something happens then I’ll have to turn Curse of the Caribbean in to a commercial game to help cover the cost for paying someone to help do a through edit of the game to make sure all bugs and errors are removed, which by the way I already have someone in mind to hire as my editor and if she is reading this then you know that I’m talking about you *P.S. Traitor Giraffe is awesome! Lee Kwangoo soo!* but I won’t know until the first of November so I’ll keep everyone posted on that. I also know and understand the situation dealing with the complications of affording to pay for a commercial game but if you can’t buy it that’s okay. I have free games that you can play still play and I’ll try to think up of a way for everyone to be happy, or at least a large majority…..actually I did have a thought in my mind. For Curse of the Caribbean I could release a game that had a limited amount of cg’s and sprites for the free verison and for the commercial version you will of course get a large amount of cg’s a sprites with different positions and extra gallery content. Again this is just a thought so I’ll have to wait on that and cross that bridge when I get to it.

Now when I do finish up with these two games I would really love to try my hand at creating a Sci-fi, futuristic sort of game. For those big sci-fi fans don’t get your hopes up to fast because I’m not to familiar with this genre and I would like to avoid any confrontational comments on how weirdly I may handle writing about this genre. I’ll reveal more about the story idea once the rest of my work is finished but I just wanted to let everyone know about that.


I think that’s everything that I wanted to talk about ^^; I apologize if it was a little long winded. You guys, I don’t think I really have words to express my shock and gratitude by how much traffic is continually coming to this site, even though I’m at a stage of the game where I can’t show much of an update for the game since I’m typing out the script and hammering out the coding. For now here is the lint report of School Memoires so far:

The game contains 254 dialogue blocks, containing 3,374 words and 16,938
characters, for an average of 13.3 words and 67 characters per block.

The game contains 2 menus, 52 images, and 14 screens.

So with that being shown, I’m sort of at a weird stage with the writing for this particular story. I’ve been doing some studying and reading up on different writing materials to help improve my writing and get it to a place where it’s more of the show then tell but I have to admit that the transition is a little difficult for me. Since I don’t really have an English teacher to go to so that I can ask questions, I’m sort of winging it all with the information that I find online. Of course I am coming across some articles that tell me to simplify and condense everything but then another article is saying, break things down and open up the story so that the readers can see it instead of you just telling it……ヽ(ー_ー ) it’s like I’m back in high school all over again.

Right now I’m still rolling with the tide trying to find my own style of writing, it took me a few trial and errors to finally settle on a particular drawing style, which might get a few updated tweaks here and there, but I’m sure that the more I continue to write then the more I will find the style that fits my taste the best.

Once I finish up School Memories I do have a few things that I want to talk about with Curse of the Caribbean and would be more than happy to hear some of your opinions on this. I want to get these two games out of the back burner so that I can move on to newer games in the future. I’ll keep everyone posted about that <3 also I don’t believe that I posted up the re-touched up sprites of the cast of School Memories. I’ll update the game page for it but since I drew these sprites a little over a year or two ago, I only touched up a few things but a lot of other images will just stay the same. I don’t plan on re-doing the backgrounds so the resolution will be at the 800 or so , that was what I first created it at since I was still new to renpy and such.
